As you are aware, the COVID-19 virus has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Like many of you, we are concerned and the health and well-being of our staff and community members remain our top priority.
The virus has rapidly spread across the globe, including an increase in confirmed cases in Indonesia. At this time, the outbreaks have been reported outside of SurfAid programme areas. Our new project in the Solomon Islands as well as the US led partnership projects in Baja, Mexico have also reported no direct cases in their communities.
We are monitoring the situation closely and following the recommendations set forth by the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as Indonesia’s National Health Ministries and SurfAid’s government partners. We are practicing social distancing and will continue our efforts to educate our communities on the importance of hand washing and sanitation practices during this critical time.
Over the last 20 years SurfAid has faced many crisis situations and thanks to our supporters and community members, these emergencies have made us stronger. With your help, we will get through these challenging times together and we will continue to update you as the situation develop.
