The SurfAid Cup returns to Bondi beach for the fifth year in a row

Bondi served up the goods on Friday, May 6th for the annual SurfAid Cup. The weather was beautiful, the surf was pumping. Six teams of legends gathered to make an impact for SurfAid’s programs and surf it out for the title of Surfing Champions.

To kick off the day competitors, pros, volunteers and the crew from Surfing NSW met early. The Depot supplied everyone with breakfast and Will and Co. served up delicious coffee. Fishbowl delivered lunch and Doctor V bought the energy and kept everyone’s spirits high throughout the day.

The competing team’s included Fishbowl, Hell Groms, Beach Burrito, Tracks, Aquabumps and SHUK. Together they raised over $35,000 to bring healthcare, clean water and food security to families in remote surf communities.

We had two fierce heats, and winners from each heat went straight to finals including Fishbowl and SHUK. Next up was a repechage round of the remaining four teams with the Hell Groms and Tracks making it through to the final.

The surfers who joined us in the pro pool included Luke Steadman, Lex O'Connor, Fred Carmody, Pete Kavanagh, Tom Myers and celebrity chef Hayden Quinn.

After the comp wrapped up everyone headed to Salty’s for the award ceremony and to enjoy a couple of drinks provided by the crew at Bondi Brewing.

Our longstanding team Aquabumps took home the Fundraising Champions award . This was a special year with Aquabumps Eugene Tan having his young son surf in the comp for the first year.

Sponsor Will & Co presented the Best Maneuver of the Day to Tiaane Cronje from team Fishbowl.

Finally, the Surfing Champions award was won by the talented team from Fishbowl who always turn up the volume with their team of talented surfers.
